What Does ‘Wellness’ Mean to Me?
“Wellness” is a word we hear everywhere - but for me, it’s not about trends, perfection, or doing everything “right.” It’s something much simpler, and much deeper.
Wellness, to me, is about coming home to yourself.
It’s about creating space in your life to pause, breathe, and reconnect - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s not something you achieve once and hold onto forever, but something you gently return to, again and again.
Wellness Is Balance, Not Extremes
So often, we’re led to believe wellness looks like strict routines, early mornings, green juices, and constant productivity. But true wellness isn’t about extremes - it’s about balance.
It’s knowing when to move your body and when to rest.
When to be social and when to be still.
When to push forward and when to soften.
This philosophy is at the heart of everything I offer - especially within my retreats, where we explore both Yang (energising, flowing movement) and Yin (slower, deeper, restorative practices). Because real wellbeing lives somewhere in between.
Wellness Is Creating Space
One of the biggest things I see - both in myself and others - is how little space we allow ourselves.
We fill our days with responsibilities, noise, and distractions. And somewhere along the way, we lose connection with how we actually feel.
Wellness begins the moment you give yourself permission to pause.
This is why my retreats are designed with a gentle rhythm rather than a strict schedule. Yes, there are beautiful, supportive practices woven throughout the day - but there’s also space. Space to reflect, to rest, to journal, to walk, or simply to do nothing at all.
Because often, it’s in those quiet moments that the most meaningful shifts happen.
Wellness Is More Than Just Yoga
Yoga is a powerful tool - but wellness goes beyond movement alone.
In my work, I bring together a range of practices that support the whole self:
A 1.5-hour Yin & Yang yoga practice, blending flow with longer-held poses
Meditations to calm the mind and build awareness
Yoga Nidra for deep, restorative rest
Reiki drumming meditations for emotional release and energetic balance
Sound baths to soothe the nervous system through vibration
Spiritual workshops to explore self-awareness, growth, and connection
Each of these elements plays a role, but it’s the combination - the way they gently layer together - that creates a truly nourishing experience.
Wellness, to me, is about supporting yourself from every angle, not just one.
Wellness Is How You Feel, Not How It Looks
It’s easy to get caught up in what wellness looks like from the outside. But the truth is, it’s deeply personal.
Wellness isn’t about achieving a certain body, lifestyle, or routine.
It’s about how you feel within yourself.
Do you feel calm?
Do you feel connected?
Do you feel like you can breathe a little deeper?
That’s what matters.
Wellness Is Connection
At its core, wellness is about connection:
Connection to your body
Connection to your breath
Connection to your thoughts and emotions
Connection to something greater than yourself
And connection to others
This is something I see so beautifully within retreat spaces. When people come together with a shared intention - to slow down, to heal, to reconnect - there’s a natural sense of openness and support that forms.
You realise you’re not alone in how you feel. And that in itself can be incredibly powerful.
Wellness Is Something You Carry With You
A retreat, a class, or a single moment of stillness can open the door - but wellness doesn’t live in one place or one experience.
It’s something you take with you.
It might look like:
Taking a few conscious breaths in a busy moment
Remembering to rest without guilt
Moving your body in a way that feels good
Creating small rituals that bring you back to yourself
These are the things that create lasting change - not perfection, but gentle consistency.

Final Thoughts
Wellness, to me, isn’t something you need to chase.
It’s something that’s already within you - beneath the noise, the busyness, and the expectations.
Sometimes, all it takes is the space to slow down…
…and the willingness to listen.
And from there, everything else can begin.
